A Nutritional Comparison Study of Three Oaks Species Grown in Gara Mountains

The preferred livelihood assets for meat and nutritious milk in thousands villages of Kurdistan rejoin/Iraq are sheep goats. They generally rely on free roaming rangeland during the growing seasons. In order to maintain their livestock scarcity forages at winter seasons, leaves twigs (Quercus aegilops, Q. infectoria libani) harvested dried as (dry leaf faggots) autumn season use major substitute feed. This study was conducted evaluate nutritional values those three oaks species’ same time collecting period. Gara Mountains were chosen due wide presence all species. Leaves samples collected late September 2015 elevation about 1250 MASL. results have shown differences chemical composition. libani recorded higher content dry matter (DM), ash crude protein (CP), lower crud fiber (CF). Higher ether extract (EE) both aegilops libani. nitrogen (NFE) potassium (K) infectoria. While (CF) content. All Quercus species can be used alternative feed small ruminant especially with some additives (such salt, vitamin, water), but more nutritive value then followed by aegilops. Therefore, priority should foremost when faggot made.
